The CLAT consists of 150 questions. Each question carries one mark. A mistake in an answer can deduct a mark from the score. Hence, it is important to get familiar with the exam pattern. It is also advisable to take adequate practice tests. For this, it is recommended to buy books with plenty of practice material. The syllabus includes various topics such as grammar, comprehension passages, syllogisms and more.
The Logic Reasoning section contains 40 marks. It is meant to assess the ability of the candidate to identify patterns, logical links and rectify illogical arguments.
The Legal Aptitude section tests the candidate's interest in the field of law. The questions are framed on a set of propositions that satisfy a set of facts. The fifth and sixth sections test the candidate's ability to solve problems. These sections are designed to assess the candidate's logical sequence, problem solving skills and research aptitude.
The CLAT cutoff depends on the number of seats available and the number of applicants. It is also determined by the reservation policy of the NLU. If the candidate belongs to the general category, he/she is required to score 45 per cent in the law entrance exam. Similarly, candidates belonging to the SC/ST category need to score 40 per cent in the qualifying exam. For all other categories, they need to submit evidence that they have passed the qualifying exam.
The final stage of the preparation process is to solve a sample paper. This can be done once a week. In addition, the student can use tools that can help improve his/her speed and accuracy. It is a good idea to maintain equanimity during the entire preparation process.
If the candidate is shortlisted, he/she will have to go through a counselling process. This counselling will require the candidate to verify his/her application form. The list of shortlisted candidates will be released along with the result. The candidate will then need to accept his/her allotment. If the candidate is not able to fulfill his/her allotted seat, he/she can exit the counselling process.
The CLAT examination will consist of five subjects. Each of the subject consists of 20-40 marks. The Reading Comprehension section was easy. The English and Mathematics sections were a little tough. The Logical Reasoning and the Legal Aptitude section were also tough.
